Helping to Make Autism Work
Practical crafts and woodwork, among other things, is helping students progress to the A2B project in work experience; making products, including traditional children's toys and tools as well as furniture restoration and construction. For some of our students, this is opening up opportunities for real work and a whole new way of life.
Practical crafts, developing and making products in wood and other materials is fundamental to what we do at ARC. While we aim to develop the skills and help to provide opportunities for young adults with ASC to gain meaningful employment, we also want to help those for whom paid employment may not be the best route. If self employment is a more appropriate avenue, we provide a high level of support through workshop training, IT skills and enterprise schemes based on traditional and craftwork manual skills.
